Independent Promoters Transform Caracas Street Corners Into Weekly Live Music Venues
Independent promoters turned empty corners of the city into regular stages that now draw crowds every weekend.

Three promoters who started booking bands in borrowed spaces five years ago now run a weekly circuit that fills rooms in Chacao and Las Mercedes.
The circuit matters now because rents for rehearsal rooms have dropped 30 percent since early 2025, letting newer acts afford to play live instead of only streaming. Organizers say the change has let them lock in dates through December without raising ticket prices.
From borrowed rooftops to fixed stages
Carlos Mendoza and two partners began with Thursday sets at a second-floor bar on Avenida Francisco de Miranda in 2021. They later added Sunday afternoons at a converted warehouse off Calle Madrid in Las Mercedes. The same group now works with Fundación Cultural Chacao to use the open plaza behind the Centro Cultural every other Friday. A second crew, led by promoter Ana Ruiz, secured the side room at the old Cine La Castellana for acoustic nights that run on Tuesdays.
Both teams credit the same small grant program from the municipal culture office that paid for basic sound gear in 2023. That equipment still travels between the two locations.
Numbers that keep the doors open
Current shows average 180 paid attendees at 12 dollars a ticket. The Chacao plaza series alone logged 42 dates between March and June this year. Organizers report that 65 percent of the bands booked this summer formed after 2024, a shift they trace to cheaper rehearsal space near Plaza Venezuela.
